Dr. Luther “Trey†Rollins, a board-certified Anesthesiologist and Pain Specialist in Atlanta, created an “IV in a bottle†product called BIOLYTE with his daughter Sarah to help his wife during her battle with breast cancer. Since its conception, BIOLYTE has become a leading rehydration product on the market.
In 2005, Dr. Rollins’ wife, Jeannine, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout her battle, she faced continual dehydration that sports drinks and other rehydration products could not satiate. The perpetual state of dehydration even prevented her from keeping up with her regular treatment schedule. It wasn’t until Dr. Rollin’s daughter Sarah prompted him about an IV alternative, that he realized the possibility of a more effective rehydration product.
Dr. Rollins completed his undergrad at the University of Georgia then attended Emory University Medical School. He was the Head of the Board of Directors for the Anesthesiology Department at Piedmont Hospital and is now the Medical Director and a practicing physician at Southeastern Interventional Pain Associates in Atlanta, GA.
Combining his knowledge of Hyperalimentation or the IV replacement of fluid, electrolytes, and nutritional supplementation with the need for more accessible, affordable IV treatment, Dr. Rollins and Sarah got to work perfecting the BIOLYTE formula and flavor.
“Much like an IV infusion bag, BIOLYTE simulates or “matches†human blood plasma’s electrolyte content,†says Dr. Rollins. “This means BIOLYTE will provide the optimal fluid and electrolyte replacement that is required for you to sweat and cool off more effectively than other electrolyte solutions.â€
BIOLYTE is 90% water to regulate body temperature and contains a balance of Sodium, Chloride and Potassium to reestablish homeostasis in the body’s cells. The product also expunges toxins from the liver, helps with nausea, and provides a boost of natural energy. It’s equivalent to drinking 7.5 sports drinks or a little over one full bottle of a children’s rehydration product.
Rollins’ daughter Jesslyn took the company’s reins during the early production stages as Director of Sales to market the product to others facing dehydration, upset stomachs, nausea, car sickness, and muscle aches. Eventually, the company landed sales with independent businesses and larger distinguished companies, including Savannah Distributing and Kroger.
What started as a remedy for his wife’s battle with chemotherapy treatments quickly become a beneficial product for the general population. Jeannine Rollins is now cancer-free, Jesslyn is the company’s CEO, and BIOLYTE can be found at over 7,000 retail locations in the Southeast region.
