The Piedmont Heart Institute, Piedmont Healthcare’s hearts and vascular program, has hired four cardiovascular specialists to practice out of Piedmont Atlanta. The physicians include Kelli Salter, M.D.; Robert Cole, M.D.; Rahul Loungani, M.D. and Katherine Kunkel, M.D.
Dr. Slater
Dr. Slater is a board-certified surgeon who received her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed her residency in general surgery and critical care medicine at Oregon Health Sciences School of Medicine, where she also completed her fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery. She joined Piedmont Heart Surgeons in Atlanta in Jan. 2021.
Dr. Cole
Dr. Cole joined the Samsky Advanced Heart Failure Center in Atlanta in Jan. 2021. He received his medical degree and completed his cardiology residency and advanced heart fellowship at Emory University. Dr. Cole specializes in the treatment of heart failure patients who may require advanced therapies, mechanical circulatory support and/or transplantation. He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.
Dr. Loungani
Dr. Lougani is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and specializes in cardiomyopathy, advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation. Prior to joining the Samsky Advanced Heart Failure Center in Atlanta in Aug. 2021, Dr. Loungani received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He also completed his fellowships at Duke University Hospital. He is also affiliated with Piedmont in Fayette, Henry, Mountainside and Rockdale.
Dr. Kunkel
Dr. Kunkel earned her medical degree at Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania and trained at Johns Hopkins Hospital and later completed her fellowships in cardiovascular diseases, interventional cardiology, and structural interventions at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as complex, high-risk indicated percutaneous coronary intervention and advanced hemodynamic care at Henry Ford Hospital.
Dr. Kunkel is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. She joined Piedmont Heart Interventional Cardiology in Atlanta in Sept. 2021 and is affiliated with Piedmont Fayette, Newnan and Rockdale too.
