On July 22, Medical Association of Atlanta member physicians, their families, sponsors and others in the healthcare field gathered at the Georgia Aquarium for their annual Gala. The guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner as the MAA commenced their award presentation and the indoctrination of the new board and president.
Dr. Fonda Mitchell, the current MAA Board Chair, presented the Aven Cup Award to Dr. Carmen Kavali, a board-certified plastic surgeon and owner of Kavali Plastic Surgery & Skin Renewal Center. Dr. Kavali received the award for her hard work creating the Georgia Alliance for Patient Protection and for her work in passing the Health Care Practitioners Truth and Transparency Act.
Dr. Mitchell also presented the President’s Award to Dr. Jayne Morgan, a cardiologist and the executive director of Health and Community Education at the Piedmont Healthcare Corporation. Dr. Morgan received the award for her service and community outreach as the Executive Director of the COVID Task Force for Piedmont Hospital as well as for her creation of The Stairwell Chronicles.
Along with the awards presentation, the MAA welcomed the newly appointed president, Dr. John A. Johnson, the current Chief Medical Officer for GEHA Health and the former owner of an Internal Medicine practice in Douglasville, Georgia. And, they held the indoctrination of the new board executive committee: Drs. Shamie Das, Carmen Kavali, Cody McClatchey and John A. Johnson.
